Acis and Galatea

Eboracum Baroque are delighted to continue their association with the National Trust at Wimpole Hall in this outdoor production of Handel’s opera, Acis and Galatea, in the beautiful Old Rectory Restaurant Garden.

This pastoral opera from 1718 tells the story of the shepherd Acis, and his love for the nymph Galatea. The couple’s delight is interrupted by the jealous giant Polyphemus, who flies into a drunken rage, brutally beating Acis to death. The opera concludes with Galatea transforming Acis’s body into a beautiful stream, thus immortalising him in nature. Eboracum Baroque will perform with a small orchestra, soloists and chorus. Directed by Chris Parsons.
