Handel’s Water Music

We present a chamber performance of Handel’s Water Music that is taken from a suite arranged at the time. The parts for this chamber suite are held in Christ Church, Oxford and it is unsure whether it was created by Handel himself or a professor of music at the University of Oxford. It is scored for 2 Violins, Bassoon and continuo.

Also presented is a suite arranged for Trumpet and Strings titled ‘Mr Handel’s Celebrated Water Piece’ It was published by John Walsh in 1734 and it is again unsure whether Handel was behind this or whether it was in a different hand.

Handel’s trio sonata, op.2 No.3 in Bb begins with an instrumental arrangement of his German aria ‘Meine Seele hört im Sehen’ The arias were composed in around 1724 whilst this set of trio sonatas followed in 1733.
