Burghley Sessions

In September 2021 we were delighted to film a concert in the impressive Great Hall at Burghley House.

The music featured in this online concert is all taken from the remarkable music collection at Burghley House which was compiled by the Earls of Exeter in the 17th and 18th centuries. The performance features fiery arias by Handel from Semele and Tamerlano as well as a virtuosic Recorder concerto by Vivaldi and a trumpet concerto by the little known English composer, Capel Bond (1730-1790).

As well as this, a couple of the shorter pieces were filmed at St Martin’s Church, Stamford. This church has a strong connection to Burghley House as it is where former Earls and Lords of Burghley are buried including William Cecil, Chief Adviser to Elizabeth I.

Available to watch on Facebook and YouTube. Donations to support the freelance musicians in this performance are gratefully received.

The programme includes:

Recorder Concerto RV 443 – Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741)
Where’er you walk from Semele – George Frederick Handel (1685-1759)
Sonata da camera in G major ‘Ciaccona’, Op 2 No 12 – Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713)
Ciel e terra from Tamerlano – George Frederick Handel (1678-1741)
Trumpet Concerto in D Major – Capel Bond (1730-1790)
