Handel’s Water Music and Purcell Songs
Eboracum Baroque are delighted to return to Canons Ashby Priory to perform a programme featuring Handel’s famous Water music. Originally performed in 1717 on the River Thames in a royal barge, King George loved it so much he requested it be played 3 times that evening! The concert will also include arias by the composer Henry Purcell taken from his major stage works. Some of Purcell’s greatest music is set to text by England’s first poet laureate, John Dryden who holds strong connections with Canons Ashby.
